I already bought three pairs this year, I just started and its really frusterating to not be able to dance because of bad shoes. The first ones I got were gamba’s, and they were too big. Then I got glissers (capezios) and they were too small. I thought I got the perfect ones, but apparently there too big on one of my feet (ones bigger then the other), and my foots too wide for the top of the shoe. I need someone who has done this before to help, I’m so lost. How can you tell what fits, because apparently I can’t.

All my friends at the dance studio suggested that I put my pointe shoes into my oven to make them more firm because its so humid here in Florida. Does any one have information abut that? Does it actually work? I want to do it, but I don’t want to screw mine up because they cost like 80 bucks. Thanks a lot!

I’m starting pointe this summer, and I need to buy a pair of pointe shoes that are good for a beginner. With much ankle and arch support, if possible? Any recommendations would be fantastic.

I wear a size 11 womens street shoe. What size is that typically in pointe shoes? I don’t need a specific brand, just the average size in pointe shoes. Thank you!

When I dance in my pointe shoes, the shank always twists to the outside of my heel, and often times makes my feel look sickled. It’s very annoying because I always have to adjust them. I have had four different pointe shoes (I’ve been on pointe for a little over a year) and every shoe does this.

I remember hearing years ago that they would hammer on the box of the shoe to make it more malleable, or that they would use something called Fabulon. I heard of one dancer who used to put the box end of the shoe in the crack between a wall and a door and slam the door right on the box, breaking it down.

Are shoes so different today that nobody has to “condition” or soften their pointe shoes any more?

Thanks!
