How many ballet shoes would a professional ballerina wear out per performance?

I’ve herd of some (ie: Sylvie Guillem) using up two pairs per show, but this seems like an awful lot. what would be average for ballet shoes and pointe shoes?

    Depending upon the part, most use one pair occasionally two. That is pretty average.

    @Olly- I have never heard of anyone going through 4 pairs of shoes in one performance. I think that would be considered rather extraordinary. I actually have never heard of anyone going through more then 2 pairs a performance. We are talking about approximately 2 hours and nobody dances the whole time during that 2 hours. Even using 2 pairs a performance is not That common but not unheard of either. mintchip49

    Depends on the role and how hard/soft they like there shoes.
    For a role like aurora in sleeping beauty she may go through 2-4 pairs of shoes, where as a corp de ballet member normally one and then they my continue wearing that pair for class the next day.

    Soft ballet shoes last for ages though as you can just keep darning them. Olly
