I have these shoes I wear to work and Im not starting to feel the pain from the heel of the shoe when I walk. They are no more than a year old and very good looking. I dont want to throw them out, I wanna be a good citizen and donate them to someone who is down on their luck. Is the process easy? And will they take used shoes (non-smelling, no scuffs, no dirt) ?

Just take it to their drop off site. And yes, they’ll take your shoes.

Find a Good Will store in your area. Go there. Most of them have drive-thrus - you don’t even need to get out of your car. You can probably just hand them off, although you might get some sort of form you can use for tax purposes.

They won’t give you any crap.

And don’t worry - quality control is NOT what it should be. I know this because I shop there, and I’m APPALLED at some of the things that turn up. I mean really! I imagine these people thinking things like “well, that spaghetti sauce stain looks terrible, but I bet some poor person would be happy to get this, and hey, maybe they even know how to get stains out, or they might come up with a clever idea on how to cover it with a pin or something!”

Well, yes it looks terrible, someone poor enough to wear stained clothing can’t AFFORD to shop even at Good Will, no they don’t, and no they can’t.

    Throw OUT your crap people!

you walk into the door, and put it in their donation bin. you can ask for a receipt for tax purposes, but if you don’t want to, it’s as simple as putting it in the donation bin. that’s it. very easy.

Look in the white pages under Goodwill or in the yellow pages under “Charitable Organizations” and find a Goodwill drop off area near you.

You can also find a Goodwill in your area by going to their site:

We donate to Goodwill all the time as well as shop at a local store. Just drop those shoes off at a drop off box or local store and they will ask you if you would like a tax deductible receipt or not. That’s all there is to it. You are also helping to provide jobs to a very special group of people facing challenges in their lives.

Just drop them off at Goodwill. And thanks for wanting to be kind! I shop at Goodwill too, but just for the heck of it. Some Goodwills have really nice things, but you can occasionally get really nasty things from somebody whose trashcan was too fll and they didn’t want to wait till next week or take it to the dump!
