get off the factory grease with either saddle soap or regular detergent and a rough sponge, let them dry, then apply a decent coat of shoe polish. DO NOT BUFF AT ALL. just wipe it on there then leave them overnight. in the morning take a brush and LIGHTLY go over it, just enough to knock off any uneven bits, not hard enough to shine it at all. then take whatever cloth your using, get it damp, put a little bit of polish on it, and run small circles until there’s no more polish on the cloth. get it damp again and repeat until you have a nice spit shine. alexander m

I used to be in the Navy, so maybe I can help you. Use a thin coat of wax, a little water, and cotton cloth (a piece of T-shirt works well). Rub it for a long time in a circular motion, occasionally adding a little water (like a drop or two). Do this for as quite awhile. When done, buff with another piece of cotton cloth without any wax on it. The more often you do this, the shinier they’ll be. There’s also a sponge-like product (sold in the same section as the wax) that will add extra shine to shoes after they’ve been polished. Flutterby

Spit shine them. It takes along time but it really creates the best possible shine.
Brief description: Use a cotton rag like a piece of old cotton sheet. Starting with clean dry shoes, wrap a double layer of the rag around your first two fingers (index & middle) and dab it in the paste wax and rub it in firmly and thoroughly. Working on only a few square inches of surface area at a time, as soon as the polish is firmly rubbed in, add a little spit to keep the surface wet. Keep rubbing and rubbing, keeping it wet and adding an extra touch of wax where needed.
The first time on a new pair of shoes will require a couple of hours, but the results are almost like patent leather. Philip H

polish in little circles then warm water in little circle repeat. When I was at boot camp there where guys who did this many times and had some crazy shinny boots. proteamjerk
