I have these pair of light blue Chuck Taylors (Converse), and Im sick of seeing them all brown. I recently just washed a pair of white plain canvas shoes by hand but the prewash my mom suggested turned them yellow-ish. Im scared of my Chucks to discolor or have to rubber part peel off. Is there a safe but effective way to clean them by hand?

Get some oxyclean and fill the sink and let them soak

Use mild dishsoap or better yet, Avon’s bubble bath with cool water and an old toothbrush. That stuff cleans everything gently and leaves a nice scent behind. Rinse well, and hang to dry.

Wipe off with a damp clean rag. Then use an old tooth brush with toilet soap, and scrub around, not using too much water.
Then fill the canvas shoe with a sponge held in place by your left hand while you apply a little water to take off the soap. Do the water thing for a few times, keeping the inside of the shoe dry. Then wipe and squeeze with a dry clean cloth, put them on the bathroom windowsill, in the sunshine to dry, or hang on the outside line, if you have one. Works for me.

Soak shoe in 1/2 cup of bleach and 4 cups of water let set for 1 3 hour then rinse and soak in plain water for one hour.
    Sun dry

well, i have converse and if i were you i would just spray them really hard with water and then clean them and i doubt they will become discolored because there not white there light blue, just don’t use bleach!

no, sadly enough, you have to put them in the washer, please?

i have a girlfriend who only hand cleans her tennies and you know, i don’t mean to be a haughty but, as girls, we’re suppose to be clean and her shoes always have that same yellow look that you speak of and are sometimes embarrassing to ME.

so, in order to keep yourself from being an unwitting embarrassment to not only yourself, but also your friends, you have to put them in the washer and set them outside in the shade to dry and when they get beaten up real good from the washer, you have to keep them for yard work only and go get another pair.

    it’s the same everywhere.
