Generally the soles of the shoes are really thick and tall. So the shoes look a lot bigger and taller than they should.

I have a pair of shoes that adds about 1in to my height. I didn’t buy them to make me taller seeing as i am 6′5″ with out them on and 6′6″ with them. They just have thick soles to the shoe and they pop me up even taller. Tallguy
