How to I get rid of an intense smell in my shoes caused by a plant that was left there in the heat over time?

I tried all kinds of soap and even bleach once, but minutes after I start walking around in the shoes they start smelling insanely bad, and it’s depressing because I would actually love to wear the shoes again!
